Half Marathon Tips

ETO Runner, George Taylor, recently took part in Chippenham half. Here are his 3 tips for your next half marathon.

Oosh. Love this. Here goes:

1. As a wise man told me, split the race into 4 sections - I go 5k/5k/5k/6.1k. Start slow enough that it feels very comfortable. That you could run at that pace all day. That you’re holding a bit back and need to work hard to not run faster. Then increase for the second 5k, again for the third 5k then ideally maintain (or even push on) for the final section.

2. I feel I really benefit from a little warm up before hand. Say a 20 min gradual pick up in pace with some sprints. That way you’re not losing the first 2km of your HM to warming up.

3. Run your own race. I know that’s a cliche thing to say but don’t get drawn into any bull shit around you. Most people try and run the same pace all the way around and drop off which makes for a miserable end. Holding it back and feeling fabulous on the final segment is much more enjoyable.

Last one from me

4. Enjoy yourself!
